Albufeira

Albufeira

Albufeira is a coastal town in the Algarve region, which lies in the south of Portugal. The former fishing village has become a popular holiday destination, with beaches and a bustling area with nightly attractions. Currently, local fishermen use the modern marina, which is also a base for diving, dolphin watching and boattrips. It is surrounded by colorful residential buildings with a seaside promenade.

Tunel Beach and Fisherman's Beach are the beaches of the city of Albufeira, with extensive sand strips, cliffs, dunes and coves along the coast. Galé Beach, to the west of the city, has water skiing and jet skiing facilities. Avenida Dr. Francisco Sá Carneiro is a bustling area with neon lights, where nightclubs and bars are open until the wee hours. The Old Town, which sits on the hillside and has almost exclusive pedestrian traffic, retains some traditional features such as cobbled streets, shops and a central square. On the outskirts of Albufeira is Paderne Castle, a 12th-century Moorish building, as well as golf courses and thetheme parks Aqualand and Zoomarine.
